# Campus Rink articles

The website replaces Contributors and Writer Studio with **Manage articles**, linked in the footer and the owner's account panel. Regular visitors see publisher headlines and published Campus Rink originals.

## Owner workflow

1. Sign in using the verified owner account.
2. Open **Manage articles** and upload `.txt` or `.md`, restore a Campus Rink article `.json` backup, or paste text from Word / Google Docs.
3. Enter the headline, writer's byline, coverage, introduction and source links.
4. Save a private draft or select **Preview & publish**.
5. Review the full story, confirm permission to publish it, then publish. Feature it on News if desired.
6. Use **Unpublish** to return a published story to a private draft. Export a backup before replacing unsaved work.

Imports are limited to 200 KB and article bodies to 50,000 characters. Text is displayed as plain text with paragraph breaks; Markdown is not rendered as HTML. Imports do not publish automatically. Each story stores its writer's byline independently of the owner's account.

## Deployment and owner setup

Deployed September 21, 2026. Firebase email/password and Google sign-in are enabled, the Workers domain is authorized, migrations 0002 and 0003 are applied, and owner access is restricted by the server's verified-email allowlist. The requested owner account signed in successfully and opened the live article manager. Ordinary visitors cannot publish. GitHub backup and automatic code deployment are separate and remain pending authorization.

For another installation, configure Firebase and `FIREBASE_PROJECT_ID` / `FIREBASE_WEB_CONFIG`, set the `OWNER_EMAILS` secret or `EDITOR_UIDS`, and apply the database migrations. Never grant ownership to the first account automatically.

The backend rejects private article reads and all article writes from ordinary members. Published content is public; drafts are private. Version checks prevent stale sessions from silently overwriting articles. Local working-draft backups are scoped to the signed-in UID; sign-out clears the in-memory editor.

Previous local newsroom data is retained in browser storage and account/device exports. The retired directory and studio are not linked in the UI. Retired URLs redirect to News or Manage articles.

External publisher articles remain links to the original sites; importing someone else's work requires permission.
